Thousands of Macedonian Greek soldiers who came with Alexander remained in Panjab. Bhim Singh Dahiya, a prominent Jat historian traces the origin of the Gills to the Greeks. He opines that the people of this Indo-Scythian tribe came in the company of Alexander the Great. They settled in Kabul, Kandhar and the Punjab region.
